Gallery lights up for Astrup Private View In March 2015 we were delighted to be asked by Scala Arts Publishers to design the catalogue for an exhibition to be entitled Nikolai Astrup—Painting Norway. The following year, on the evening of 4 February, we were on our way to Dulwich Picture Gallery for the private view. Seen from a distance, in the dark, Dulwich Picture Gallery appeared to be on fire, but we need not have worried. One of Astrup's recurring themes is the midnight bonfire, the centrepiece of a traditional Midsummer celebration in Norway, and this inspired a spectacular installation of fire sculptures in the gallery gardens. Within the building, where there was a large contingent from Norway among the visitors, there were further delights—not only the extensive display of Astrup's work, but also a short performance by Elisabeth Turmo, a violinist and student at the Royal College of Music, playing her Hardanger fiddle, a traditional Norwegian instrument.
